Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

Copypasta in Empathy between conversations is complete rubbish.

In Pidgin copying and pasting between conversations respects and keeps to the original formatting. Empathy does not. This is unusable.

Ubuntu Karmic. System up to date.

reproducible.

All i have to do is copy a conversation from one tab to another tab. The screenshot shows me talking to someone else, with that conversation then copied in to a third partie's window. The result is that it really is not clear who said what.

i am running gnome shell at the moment, however, this would have happened before, if this was the first time i had noticed it i would not have reported it.

i will post results again when i am back in normal ubuntu.

i've just logged out - logged back in, running normal basic metacity, opened up empathy copied and pasted the same conversation to someone else and the results were the same. I now remember this happening when i first installed karmic, and it being one of the reasons (along with no msn file transfer) for me dropping it, and downloading pidgin. That was on a different computer, within a week of karmic's release.

i m using ubuntu lucid, beta. with pidgin copy-paste looks the same everywhere. nicely formatted, with color and timestamp, one paragraph per message.

with empathy it does not, some examples:

1. copy multiple messages from one chat window - paste into another
the result is one big message, including all the messages as text. name and date coming with it.

2. copy multiple messages from one chat window - paste into openoffice
an ugly formatted (html?) table is produced, with dead icons.

3. copy multiple messages from one chat window - paste intogmail rich text formatted mail, firefox-3.6
no paste at all is possible.

4. copy multiple messages from one chat window - paste into text editor, or text formated gmail
the format is ugly and inconsistent, i.e. for a multiline message copied:
   * first line is name and time,
   * second line is only text
   * third line is text and time
   * fourth line is space

Hi,
I noticed that when i past text containing carry return (\r) data where not transmitted but after a clean using pidgin datas are send correctly
Then, if i replace line feed (\n) by \r\n data are not transmitted again.

By the way,

why the CTRL+C doesn't work in empathy? this is a so big feature and it's not in Empathy :(

I don't know
Empathy is fairly pretty, but it has so many little oversights like this, I hope they get it all sorted out!

I tried to reproduce this behaviour under empathy 2.31.90 included in Maverick and works fine for me (paste in OpenOffice and other chat windows without problems), is pasted such a kind of plain text. Can you check if this problem is solved for you using 2.31.90.x version? Thanks.
