Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

It's good to see there has been some improvement since Karmic Alpha4. With today's updates, empathy doesn't crash anymore. But still I can't make audio and video calls.

When I start empathy from the terminal it gives this:

***********************
mkk@dokueva-kubuntu910:~$ empathy

(empathy:3742): libebook-WARNING **: Can't find installed BookFactories

(empathy:3742): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_propagate_error: assertion `src != NULL' failed
*************************

Then, when I want to make an audio call, a conversation window appears, and after a few seconds it disappears again and gives this:

**************************

But the good news is Empathy itself stays on, doesn't close.

And the other thing is, when someone calls me from Windows Google Talk, I don't get anything. They can see me as online, they can call me, but they end up leaving voice mail. I see it through web browser within gmail.

What's the output of this command on your system:
"gconftool-2 --get /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc"

Could you try to change your default input audio to use Pulseaudio (using gstreamer-properties) ?

"gconftool-2 --get /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc" gives this:
pulsesrc

I tried on the command line gstreamer-properties it didn't work, and told me that I should install gnome-media. I installed it and rerun gstreamer-properties. Default Input Plugin shows PulseAudio Sound Server.

After this I tried once again. At this time conversation window doesn't close. So, probably you should let Empathy install gnome-media with it in Kubuntu.

Conversation is still impossible. I hear their voice at the same time. But my voice arrives them after 10 - 15 seconds. I'll open another bug for this.

Your latency problem is probably because of bug #426587

Hey Guillaume,

You said: gnome-media shouldn't change anything.

But it seems, there's a relationship between empathy and gnome-media. Because I removed gnome-media back. And same thing started happening again.

When I try to call someone, my conversation window appears for a second, and disappears after that.
