Bug Description

Ubuntu 12.10
Empathy 3.6.0.3

Contact photos icons are too big, they were smaller in ubuntu 12.04. Now the contact list is 3km long, I have to scroll a lot to look for someone.

note: I don't have many contacts online because it's really early in a Saturday morning :p ... but yeah, this makes empathy pretty much useless. I am using pidgin while I try to fix it...

Let's hope this is a bug and not a feature :)

In a prior version, I could uncheck the option to show contact details, and the list became more compact. Now, this version has this option removed, and things are way too big to be really useful. PLEASE at least add an option to make it more compact, if not make it the default.

Any update on this?

There is also no sort order on contact list. This is making using empathy virtually impossible.
Is there a patch of some sort that perhaps can be used?

same as above... empathy in this way is awful and less useful... it should be configurable as it was before.

To get a more compact list, I have published a new deb package that simply reduces the size of the avatar from 48 pixel high to 24, which seems to work flawlessly on my computer.

My blog post at http://vaab.blog.kal.fr/2013/04/04/fixing-empathy-in-ubuntu-12-10 will give you the 64bit debian package and a lengthy way to get your own package with your own pixel size if you want.

Any update? Empathy is still rather unusable, which really shouldn't happen in Ubuntu's IM of choice. Also, why can we not simply adjust the settings anymore?
