Empathy cannot open links anymore, "Unable to open URI"

After some of latest updates (12.04 LTS), opening urls from Empathy broke.

Clicking a link in conversation window only displays dialog "Unable to open URI, Operation not supported": http://www.foopics.com/showfull/0f0f1a5d5b07b87ea9bdce8067220383

I'm quite certain this worked fine before, and is not result of any misconfiguration as as of this writing, this also happens on my friends installation.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

It appears this bug affects only certain URLs, as some URL's open just fine and some doesn't (while all of them being valid URLs).

This actually seems to affect links with certain characters only.

Here's an example link which does not work: http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/SV200S3%2F256G

To test:

1) http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/SV200S3%2F256G paste this link to conversation window
2) Click on it
3) "Unable to open URI, Operation not supported" popup appears.
