Bug Description

The emesene package requires python-libmimic installed for webcam support. This is fixed in ubuntu 10.04 where it is a recommended package and installed by default with emesene. This bug still applies for ubuntu 9.10 and possibly earlier where the packages don't depend/recommend or suggest the python-libmimic package.

Binary package hint: emesene

I'm using ubuntu Karmic with all updates. okay
When using "emesene", i'm not able to activate webcam (even clicking onthe webcam button) and i have a message :
"You don't have libmimic, so you can't send or receive webcam"
-----
Falling into emesene forums, i foundthat:
"ok, unfortunately this is not your fault, whoever packaged ubuntu's emesene fucked up the libraries.. some ubuntu user should really file a bug about this"
Link : http://forum.emesene.org/index.php?PHP_S3SS1D=9c3ilngeah2hhj88pgteh55ph0&topic=2195.msg17135#msg17135

Hoping webcam issue with emesene will be fixed in the next updates !

Do you have python-libmimic installed?

I already installed "emesene-crazy" from ... PPA for B.J. Stobiecki
https://code.launchpad.net/~bjfs
seems to work perfect .. i verified the "python-libmimic" and it's not installed (i don't verified it before since the message talks about libmimic itself!)
Thanks !

The package python-libmimic solved the problem for me too, I think for the next versions, the coders should make a deb package with need to install python-libmimic package.

Friends, i had this problem too until i install python-all-dev and python-libmimic. After that emesene works fine.
For the first one i use Synaptic for install it. The second did it manually with this instrucction:

sudo apt-get install python-libmimic

I hope this helps you for resolve this issue.

I believe this was labeled as Incomplete accidently. The comments suggest that this bug is due to python-libmimic not being in emesene's dependencies. This is still the case for all releases before 10.04 according to packages.ubuntu.com.
Emesene in ubuntu 10.04 now depends on python-libmimic (and was installed with the package successfully when I checked).
