Bug Description

Binary package hint: emacs23

If I run emacs23 as an X application on Natty under Unity, I see problems drawing the cursor: partial or complete cursors are sometimes left behind when the cursor moves, and the cursor is sometimes partially or completely invisible at its actual location. This makes using emacs very annoying at best.

I'm using Intel graphics on a Thinkpad T410s:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 02)

the i915 xorg driver calls this "Arrandale".

I'm attaching a screenshot that shows an example of the problem.

I notice that changing focus to another window causes the cursor to get redrawn in the correct place (and any remnants/artifacts go away)

I have this too on all versions of Emacs.
It is fixed by loading with -nw (no window interface), however -q still suffers (load without custom init i.e. color-themes etc).

This appears to be the same problem as #707236 and for me at least is fixed by the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.14.0-1ubuntu6
