Bug Description

Binary package hint: emacs

open konsole

% xmodmap -e 'keycode 115 = Multi_key'
emacs -version
GNU Emacs 21.4.1
% emacs

and type the sequence <Multi_key> ' e to produce an e-acute.
(Multi_key is set to the right windows key)
Hitting <Multi_key> immediately produces a beep.
<Ctrl>h k <Multi_key> says "<space> is undefined"

this worked fine in Dapper.

Thanks for the email. The problem, as I just found out, is with locale settings.
if LANG=en_US.UTF8, then multi-key works fine.
if LANG=en_US, then multi-key does not work, and just causes a 'beep'.

there is no such problem with xemacs.

best, L

Mutli_key == "Compose" key, right?

When I use the Compose key, it gets a beep. :/ ...unless I have my "context menu" key set to be the Compose key; the "context menu" key always seems to be the equivalent of M-x, regardless of whether it acts as the Compose key or not.

LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=en_US:en_GB:en LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8

This is on Feisty. Are you still using Edgy?

Yes. Now that I set the LANG variable to en_US.UTF-8, all is fine. I'm
used to latin-1, and the locales seem broken missing in latin-1.

I'm still with edgy.
