Bug Description

Binary package hint: ekiga

The problem:

Starting up Ekiga, it immediately registers successfully with my @ekiga.net account. However, after some time (probably after the register timeout of 300s), it reports "Could not register (Failed)" and than keeps that status.

My setup:

Ekiga used on a computer in a 192.168.0/24 network; The gateway is a Debian Sequeeze box (with a public IP) running the SIP proxy siproxd (listening inbound on 192.168.0.101:5066). Ekiga is configured to use that siproxd as outbound proxy, this way no NAT has to be done on SIP traffic. Ekiga's STUN support has been disabled using gconf-editor.

This siproxd setup has been rock stable with earlier Ekiga versions, however I haven't used Ekiga for about a year, so the regression might be much older than Maverick.

Other hardware IP phones on my network have been working realiably for more than a year using the siproxd proxy, making me think that really Ekiga is to blame here.

Also traffic dumps (attached) show that Ekiga is not behaving correctly. Recorded via:

   tcpdump -A -s 1024 -i eth0 portrange 5060-5066 and udp

Corresponding log output of 'ekiga -d 4' is attached as well.

Looks like Ekiga is sending some SUBSCRIBE packets directly to ekiga.net:5060, circumventing the configured outbound proxy. This might be the reason for the problem.

Attached log outputs have been filtered with a sed-script to replace parts of user-names in sip-addresses with xxxxx to keep my privacy.
