Bug Description

I recently noticed Ekiga depends on evolution-data-server when trying to remove evolution packages. I understand Ekiga uses Evolution's backend for directory information storage ?

Can this dependency be removed at some point ? It seems this would also help Ekiga towards having a Windows version, unless the Windows version requires installing Evolution in the future (!).

It seems odd the functionality required introduces the need for an additional 15MB of otherwise unused packages (evolution-data-server and evolution-exchange), assuming you don't use/need Evolution.

Thanks for your report. I don't see a bug in this. In Ubuntu it makes sense to store sip adresses in evolution, on Windows not so much, I agree - but you should rather take this complaint to the upstream developers: http://bugs.gnome.org - there's nothing Ubuntu can do in Ubuntu to fix things on Windows.

Before marking this as rejected wishlist, I'd appreciate gving some time to properly report upstream.

Why storing SIP adresses requires a 10MB+ package is a bit beyond my understanding of good practices in system resources usage. Perhaps you can see a bug in that ?

Convincing anyone to use Ubuntu beyond the LiveCD and initial install also includes answering questions and fixing or improving cases of resources being misused. Tools like Ekiga don't help, specially when they're are included as a default application and set high expectations.
