Bug Description

Binary package hint: ekiga

I used to be able to use ekiga with both ekiga.net and voipcheap.com on Ubuntu 9.04
Now it tells me that ekiga.net cannot register (forbidden). As far voipcheap.com is concerned, it registers, though with any call-out a user is always not reachable. I tried all types of network configurations - with no avail.

I just updated ekiga on my freebsd server. It might be an older version. Different network setup. Everything works flawlessly there.

I also have linphone on the same Ubuntu 9.10, which can connect most of the time by voipcheap.com. The sound disappears quite regularly though. Damn pulseaudio, I had to remove it :(

I also have the same version of Ekiga on Ubuntu 9.10 with updated kernel Ubuntu 2.6.31-16 (generic). The sound device settings are by default and I have also VoipCheap.com account.

Ekiga won't work! It registers though. I have done everything according to the several how-to in Ubuntu forums I have found although I cannot find where should I put the STUN server settings.

One reference for you:

1. I have tried Fedora 12 on the same laptop (Dell Latitude E6400) and I have just entered the VoipCheap.com account settings as new account and everything worked out of the box no other settings changed I just said that Registrar is 'voipcheap.com' and user and password and all worked. The issue is I cannot stand Fedora and all I can use for many years now is Ubuntu.

2. If you register the same Voipcheap.com account on Twinkle where for service you enter just 'voipcheap.com' on the same Ubuntu 9.10 where Ekiga fails it works nicely. This is a work around and I have used Twinkle with no ptoble for VoipCheap.com so far till I ran across that Ekiga can be used too and I think Ekiga is much more simple and nice to use then QT dependant Twinkle.

Thanks!

Hope you think this is important issue.

Thanks Zahari,
Unfortunately I do not understand sip very well so it is kinda not clear for me why ekiga does not work all of a sudden.

Please, note, that I can no more connect to my ekiga account (right after the upgrade). Yes, ekiga is pretty straightforward and nice. Although, the way gnome applications are configured, I think is a "minus" (through the gconf-editor). I would prefer editing a file the old unix way. I had had linphonec working for me very well. It does now. I can connect to my voipcheap account using linphone-3.
You might want to try that too
Good luck to you too!

Finally, I was I able to successfully set up a voipcheap account again with ekiga. I had to deinstall my linphone* package though about which I am not sure if that was the culprit.

I chose ekiga this time, since linphone also started acting up since after the upgrade to 9.10. It would ask my password multiple time as though the password is entered incorrectly and is provided in the config file.

Well, I guess nothing was wrong with the ekiga, it must have been an issue related to the sip networking. It is certainly a bug. Both ekiga and linphone used to coexist and work flawlessly on 9.04 as well as on my current FreeBSD machine (now upgraded to the 8.0 version)

What fixed it was deinstalling linphone (not sure if was necessary) and using ekiga-config-tool with the --clean option that subsequently erased my configurations.

Please use ekiga 4.0.0, it fixes such issues.
