Bug Description

I have the same problem as:
Expired Question #72501, asked on 2009-05-28 by penqem

I set Ekiga up with the SIP I created some time back, and it keeps responding that it cannot register my username at ekiga.net.
Thinking I'd duffed my settings, I created a new SIP at Ekiga.net.
Using the response e-mail, I deleted the old account, and set up a new one with the new details.
Same result.

I am accessing the Net via a switch for my residence building, then via a Smoothwall server. Is this the issue?

Hi,

Thank you for reporting.

We need more informations to understand this issue.

Close Ekiga ("quit" in the chat menu).
Please attach a debug output running this command:
$ ekiga -d 4 2>output.txt

Wait until Ekiga fails to register, close ekiga and attach the fileoutput.txt here.

Best regards,
Yannick

Hi,

This is not a REGISTER failure:
SIP/2.0 200 OK
CSeq: 2 REGISTER
Via: SIP/2.0/UDP 172.19.3.200:5060;branch=z9hG4bK04e42ac2-8a83-de11-9c73-001e3391f340;rport

Registration to Ekiga.net is fine.

The issue is with the negotiation when calling the echo test: the INVITE timeout after resending with authentication information.
2009/08/09 21:45:09.165 0:25.714 Housekeeper:0xcf05f950 SIP Transaction 2 INVITE timeout, making retry 1

I'm pushing this upstream as i find this quit odd.

Best regards,
Yannick

Hi,

As our server Ekiga.net do not accept private IP, while your registration to it works using a private IP, we suspect something in the path is rewriting packets on the fly at the SIP level protocol (a router?).

While rewriting, it might add substantial overhead to the packets, leading to an issue with the MTU limit of UDP packets (I know it sounds over technical, but I also need this to keep track of issues inside bugs reports...).

Could you try this to help me find if my hypothesis is correct:
In Ekiga GUI,
go to Edit->Preferences->Audio->Codecs and disable all of them, but PCMA,
go to Edit->Preferences->Video->Codecs and disable all of them, but H261
Now you have only the audio codec PCMA and the video codec H261 enabled.
Call the echo test. If I'm right, it should work this time. Can you confirm?

Best regards,
Yannick

Hey,

I tried disabling all codecs except PCMA and H261, but it didn't work this time either. Also, the message that it cannot register username at ekiga.net appears before I try to call the echo test.

Not sure if that helps..

Thanks,
MALM

Hi Miguel A. Lopez-Molina,

You have a slightly different issue: Ekiga cannot register. Ekiga is sending internet packet and never gets an answer. Most probably an issue with your router or your firewall.

btw, here is the latest Ekiga 3.2.6:
https://launchpad.net/~sevmek/+archive/ekiga-released

Still I have very few hope it will solve the issue...

Best regards,
Yannick
