Bug Description

Binary package hint: ekiga

I am using a Philips SPC620NC webcam using the v4l2 driver. Ekiga's
configuration druid successfully performs all the tests. I can also access the
webcam using e.g. mplayer and get a correct picture.

In ekiga however, the video display is mangled. It is solely in green and has
horizontal stripes all over. I have attached a screenshot of both the correct
mplayer and the mangled ekiga video.

I am a bit surprised by the fact that there are a couple of bugs that describe
similar effects for other video players, regardless of the source: Bug #236179,
Bug #182532, Bug #163930. Note that I have neither a Intel nor a VIA graphics
card but an ATI Radeon M300 and that I have disabled Compiz.

I have found a message describing a similar problem with the v4l2 driver and
the Creative Live! Cam Optia:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/ekiga-list/2007-March/msg00013.html
In that case the fix was apparently pretty simple, so maybe the same solution
can be applied here.

The same problem with the Philips SPC620NC has also been reported in
http://markmail.org/message/ulxctvbsshjiyf4p by a different person.

I would like to confirm the reported problem with the same camera and driver on both 32- and 64bit Hardy. The very same artefacts appear on Ekiga's video output window. The camera delivers correct pictures when operated with "luvcview -f yuv".

I tested Ekiga with a Philips PCVC740K (0471:0311) and an Acer CrystalEye (064e:a101) and both work correctly. The difference that I found between those cameras is that the SPC 620 supports only 640x480 and 320x240 modes whereas the other models offer more modes, at least 160x120 (as reported by "luvcview -L") . Can this be important to Ekiga?

This should be fixed in jaunty since libpt2.6.1 is now compiled with libv4l support.
