A few more details:

- There is no CD in the drive. The drive is empty.
- The physical switch on the CD-ROM drive also does nothing.
- The door works fine after reboot. It only gets locked after ejecting 1-2 CDs.

Also, I did not have this problem with Jaunty. It looks like a Karmic regression.

Hi, jpritikin73

I also have this issue and I hope somebody fixes this.
The only way I can open the drive is issuing these commands:
eject -m
eject -v
Its not perfect but at least it does let me open the drive... hope it works for you

It seems Canonical has no solution for this!
I've had this problem in Jaunty, Karmic and guess what? I've installed Lucid and the issue is still here...
I know it's still a Beta version and I refuse to go back to window$ just for this 1 issue but I'm guessing many people will do just that. Everybody still uses CD and DVD drives.

I am seeing this in 13.10, on a Lenovo L430.
- There is no CD in the drive. The drive is empty.

- The door works fine after reboot. It only gets locked after ejecting 1 CD.
- This happens when ejecting using Nautilus, and when ejecting using Unity dock right-click-eject.
