Running at really slow speed

After the applications starts it becomes slow and almost unusable. It's so slow that it's really difficult to press buttons moving the mouse. Also pressing buttons, after succeding to reach the area, needs a long press, about one second of mouse down, before releasing. The hardware is good, and my laptop has good performance, also with games more heavy, like 0ad, which run smoothly.
