Since this bug seems to be resoundingly ignored, let me be clear: THE INSTALLER SHOULD CHECK VERY EARLY IN THE INSTALLATION PROCESS WHETHER OR NOT THE CPU SUPPORTS THE INSTALLATION/UPDATE WHEN THERE'S A COMPATIBILITY BREAK SUCH AS EXISTS IN 10.10 AND NOT WAIT UNTIL IT TRASHES THE INSTALLED SYSTEM. My system was left in an unbootable state and I was unable to recover it, I had to re-install 10.04 from scratch.

In addition the release notes should have much more than the cryptic note about not supporting i586. My CPU is i686 but doesn't have the CMOV instruction apparently. Details about how to check the CPU flags or something should be included.
