Bug Description

Binary package hint: coreutils

Just change the french translation of :
"md5sum: /dev/scd0: No medium found"
not by the wrong : (what is a "medium ?" (in french... (joke for french : Mais qu'est-ce que fais un medium ? Il a pris le contrôle de mon graveur ?))
"md5sum: /dev/scd0: Aucun medium trouvé"
But by the (maybe) right sentence :
"md5sum: /dev/scd0: Aucun disque trouvé"

Thanks ;)

Dorian,

After doing a quick search on coreutils, I haven't found that string (https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/coreutils/+pots/coreutils/fr/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=medium)

Do you think you could tell us which command where you executing where you saw the wrong translation? This would help us in pinpointing where the string needs to be fixed.

The command is md5sum /dev/scd0 (when i burned a disk).

It seems that the string does not come directly from md5sum, but it is a generic error message. In any case, I could not find it in coreutils, so before we can ask the French translators to consider fixing it, we should find where the string actually comes from.

Anyway, the correct translation would be "Aucun média n'a été trouvé".

Might be this one: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/eglibc/+pots/libc/fr/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=medium (was glibc package before karmic)
The upstream maintainer of glibc French translation is y.kerb <email address hidden>. I've mailed him.

affects: coreutils (Ubuntu) → eglibc (Ubuntu)

i will change to media, but medium is correct : "Ce qui sert de support, d'intermédiaire à quelque chose." I guess in this context it may be not very well understood. I think "disque" is too restrictive

Actually there's only a typo. It should be "médium" or "média". Thanks kerb to fix this.

Ok, it seems that the French team has managed to coordinate with the upstream translator to fix this, so I'm marking the Ubuntu Translations task it as In Progress as well. Feel free to mark it as Fix Released when the string is actually changed and makes it to Ubuntu.

Thanks!

looks like it's still "medium" and not "média" in Natty.

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/eglibc/+pots/libc/fr/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=No+medium+found

is this bug still 'in progress' ?

Could someone from the French team give us an update of the status of this bug? Is it still an issue in Ubuntu 11.10?

Yes, it's still here, when I type : "md5sum /dev/scd0", I have : "md5sum: /dev/scd0: Aucun medium trouvé".

Hi. I just submitted the translation package with correction of the typo : medium -> médium on 2 lines.
(sorry for this long delay).

Kerb, your fix is wrong and the state of French translation of libc is a shame.

Do you intend to pass the torch to someone else?

Note: The original bug report is against 'coreutils' not 'libc'.

I already fixed the translation of coreutils (major overhaul) in upstream. I hope Ubuntu uses upstream translation, doesn't it?

http://translationproject.org/domain/coreutils.html

so now, we need to fix libc translation in upstream.
