Bug Description

"sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales" just generates the locales.
There is no way to select the packages and no way to select the default locale on screen two as it was before.

The change in Dapper is intentional. The command line method is to no longer use ``dpkg-reconfigure locales'' but to pass a list of the first-column entries in /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED to ``locale-gen''. The System> Administration> Language Support tool in GNOME invokes locale-gen.

Perhaps what the submitter seeks is documentation regarding this change.

Intentional? Why do you change a simple thing?

1. "/usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED" gives a total of 416 lines
2. "dpkg-reconfigure locales" generates 20 locales - same as simple using "locale-gen"
3. I don't use Gnome, but KDE
4. Yes I do need documentation about how to select locales and to select the default locale.

some actually use ubuntu as a server/headless, which means we cant run the language support tool at all.

yes, I agree, this was an unfortunate change. I have found a way to deal with it, even straight from the command line: http://blog.leggewie.org/?p=30
