package libc6 2.19-0ubuntu6.6 failed to install/upgrade: package architecture (armhf) does not match system (amd64)

trying to set my system up for cross building for arm hf. I added a new architecture, dpkg --add-architecture... added [arch=] for amd64, i386, and armhf to each item is sources.list, updated, and then installed dpkg-cross and the error occured during the install of crossbuild-essential-armhf.
