Bug Description

Yesterday was an update to the EFI boot loader. I restart the computer but the system does not boot.

stood on the black screen

"null in the ring
Aborted. Press any key to exit."

and when I pressed a button

"Aborted. Press any key to exit. alloc magic is broken at 0xcfab9fa0"

ctrl+alt+F1 show no effect. ctrl+alt+del restart but problem is still there.

The problem occurs on a Acer TravelMate 8473T

I created this report with a newly installed system. the harmful destructive updates are
- GRand Unified Bootloader (common files)
- GRand Unified Bootloade, version 2 (dummy package)
- GRand Unified Bootloade, version 2 (EFI-AMD64 version)
- GRand Unified Bootloade, version 2 (EFI-AMD64 binaries)
- GRand Unified Bootloade (common files for version 2)

I have installed new beta 1. I've played all the updates except

- GRand Unified Bootloader (common files)
- GRand Unified Bootloade, version 2 (dummy package)
- GRand Unified Bootloade, version 2 (EFI-AMD64 version)
- GRand Unified Bootloade, version 2 (EFI-AMD64 binaries)
- GRand Unified Bootloade (common files for version 2)

the system works and can be started.

I've been off a problem with the Alpha-1. Perhaps there is a connection.

I just installed 12.04 beta2 amd64 to Fit-pc3. Installation was file, I just selected the "use the whole disk" -option. Boot after installation was fine. I took all the updates -> reboot -> does not boot anymore.

Fit-pc3 bios version: BZ_2.1.0.333_5 X64
Booting leads to "EFI Shell version 2.0.0"
ver (version) command gives:
EFI Specification Revision : 2.0
EFI Vendor : Phoenix Technologies Ltd.
EFI Revision : 4660.22136
EFI Build Version : MS_Release8_6_3_0714

I made a reinstallation from the same installation media (12.02 beta amd64 USB-stick made with UNetbootin) and again using the whole HD. When I took all updates after installation, I noticed there were fewer packages to upgrade: 498 vs 503 before. This matches to the 5 packages listed in the bug description. I took manual search to the packages to be updated and did not found any of those 5 mentioned. Someone took them out from the repos meanwhile?
