A related bug might be Bug #272232. The PAM password change stack currently has a bug where a password change might be reported as "successful" even though it wasn't. Note that pam_ecryptfs will ONLY rewrap the passphrase if the password change ACTUALLY succeeds, regardless of what the output messages might be.
