eclipse needed a old version of swt

Binary package hint: eclipse

the new eclipse package (3.5.2-10ubuntu2) depents on old swt:
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no swt-pi-gtk-3557 or swt-pi-gtk in swt.library.path, java.library.path or the jar file

thats because my system (natty and oneiric) does not have swt3.5 any more, it uses 3.6

but eclipse does not have swt as build depend (i think it should have)

PS: why is the package for eclipse 3.6 not published?

Confirmed. I see the exact same problem trying to start Eclipse on Oneiric.

i heard that "Eclipse ships its own version of swt." but the error shows that it cant be true

I'm getting the impression Eclipse is not a very popular development environment. A newer Eclipse package was uploaded weeks ago, but I can't tell if it corrects this bug because it's dependent on other packages that were not uploaded - eclipse-jdt (>= 3.5.2-10ubuntu2) , eclipse-pde (>= 3.5.2-10ubuntu2).

Is there a PPA people generally use for Eclipse instead, or is there just a better dev environment I'm not aware of?

Ubuntu 11.10 is in development, so breakage is allowed. The plan is to get Eclipse 3.7 with webkit (dropping xulrunner) into the archive. This is currently blocked by an outdated icu4j version. We need to update icu4j to version 4.4. Help to get Eclipse 3.7 ready would be appreciated.
