running eclipse tells me install wasn't finished (in a non severe way)

Binary package hint: eclipse
Xubuntu 8.4 RC AMD64 desktop
Running Eclipse prints:
jay@jayu1:~$ searching for compatible vm...
testing /usr/lib/
Could not create /usr/local/
touch /usr/local/
chmod 2775 /usr/local/
chown root:staff /usr/local/
Installing it should have done that, presumably.
