Bug Description

Binary package hint: eclipse-cdt

Steps taken:
1. Create new C++ project,
2. Create a new .cpp file and enter some code.
2. Enter object name then '.' or '->'.

Result:
Editor freezes for between 5 and 10 seconds, then displays content assist list.

Expected:
No / negligible delay.

Notes:
* Delay does not occur using content assist with Java source.
* Have tested with no, fast and full indexers (as set in project properties). No change observed.
* Tested and repeated on several high spec machines. No change observed.
* Tried increasing heap size available to eclipse. No change observed.

Version information:
Eclipse SDK
Version: 3.2.2
Build id: M20070212-1330 ('Ubuntu' version: 3.2.2-3ubuntu3)

Eclipse C/C++ Development Tools
Version: 3.1.2.200706181825
Build id: 200706181825

I've had this problem as well. The instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=201378 fixed the problem.

Hi Matt, thanks for the comment.

Unfortunately following those instructions hasn't helped me.
Can I ask if the slowness you experienced was just with CDT, or with Java as well?

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04? Which jvm are you using?

I couldn't comment.
On 8.04 I'm using not using the packaged version; grabbed the 3.3.2 tarball from the Eclipse site.
With CDT 4.0.0 and Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_07-b06) this is no longer an issue.

Cheers,
Dave

Still reproducible in 8.10. With openjdk-6-jdk 6b12-0ubuntu6 and eclipse-cdt 3.1.2-2 content assist blocks the UI for 5-10 seconds before the content assist list is displayed.
Using sun-java6-jdk 6-10-0ubuntu2 the content assist list is displayed after ~100-200ms.
