Bug Description

Binary package hint: eagle

I installed on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) that uses Gnome 2.26.1 the packages eagle (5.4.0-4ubuntu1) and eagle-data from Karmic. Most of the program works, but it seems that there is a missing installation dependency, because every time I click on an option that should open a file selection dialog (it tries to use the one from Gnome), it crashes with Segmentation fault.

On such an installation the crash can occur if you open a new Project, add a new Schematic and click on menu Library and Use.

Packages eagle (4.16r2-4ubuntu2) and corresponding eagle-data open the file selection dialogs without any problems.

Even recompiling the eagle (5.4.0-4ubuntu1) from the sources (deb-src) did not solve the problem.

FYI, I and others have experienced something similar. IIRC in my case just moving an object caused a segmentation fault.

As a workaround, you can download the installer for the most recent version (5.6) from cadsoft and install that. This "upgraded" my brd files so that they could not be opened by my colleagues, so I switched back to 4.16r2 (also downloadable from cadsoft).

When it crashed I got a popup about sending a report. I did that the first time it crashed. So the "relevant dumps" should be somewhere...

Oops I see the previous comments are pretty old, and must refer to a pre-release of karmic. I'm running released-karmic.

Hello, could you try the following:

cp /usr/lib/eagle/bin/eagle ~/.eagle/bin/

and see if this fixes the segfaults?

It could be a duplicate of: bug #475891

Hello, I experienced this bug (Segmentation fault when moving) on kubuntu 9.10 running both eagle 5.4 from the main ubuntu repo's as with the 5.6 version from the michael-gruz/elektronik PPA. Solution suggested by Scott Howard resolves the issue.

Thanks for the report and helping make Ubuntu better! I'm marking this as a duplicate of bug #475891. This bug has been fixed in Lucid, but still exists in Karmic. A SRU is filed for Karmic that is still pending.
