Empty directory needs 12.8 MB

I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 dev with e2fsprogs 1.42.5-1ubuntu2. The last days a directory in my home folder had a very long loading time with only a few directories/files. After some research I figured out that the directory itself uses 12.8 MB after I have removed all files. To confirm this I have made a look with ls:
