Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

One of two errors happen when trying to blank a disk:
1) Brasero reports that the blanking was successful and ejects the CD. At reinsertion, user finds that the CD is not blanked.
2) If "Fast blanking" is checked, the error "Unknown error" is displayed

Media is a DVD+RW

Device is unknown (when using wodim*), but I think it's a SATA DVD-RW drive

*$ wodim --devices
wodim: No such file or directory.
Cannot open SCSI driver!
For possible targets try 'wodim --devices' or 'wodim -scanbus'.
For possible transport specifiers try 'wodim dev=help'.
For IDE/ATAPI devices configuration, see the file README.ATAPI.setup from
the wodim documentation.

Device list from hwinfo get stuck on the Optical drive
$ hwinfo
> block.5.1: /dev/sr0 cache

But then output the following concerning the Optical drive:

Testing on K3B which unmounts the disk and does not blank it. Instead, it reports success and says that you do not need to blank the disk, you simply can overwrite it. At reinsertion, DVD-RW still has all files on it.

Using K3B with the "force" option enabled reports "Formatting successfully completed". At reinsertion, DVD-RW still has all files on it.

Still having a lot of issues burning and blanking media with the PLEXTOR DVDR PX-755A Sata Optical Drive. I currently have to boot back two releases for it to work fully as expected.

What you see is a bug in growisofs......

In order to blank media, I recommend to use cdrecord:

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

http://cdrecord.berlios.de/

Note that you need to use the original software if you like to get DVD
support. After you did install the original cdrtools, you may like to configure
brasero to use it.

Did you try this in Ubuntu or Kubuntu?
Also, can you right-click on the disc and select blank disc? Does it work now?

I am experiencing the same problem with my DVD-RW. It will not blank in Brasero. CD-RWs it does not have a problem with.
