Bug Description

dvd playback has stalled in 2.6.4.21 and unmapped my eject button in dell vostro 1310.(seems to stick at certain points and can't play through. ) Only way to eject is to right click the drive on the desktop.
When put same dvds in in previous kernel I have no problem with playback or eject buttons.

Also need to add that the latest package installer failed as well- had to run depmod to get the package to fully install.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in dvd+rw-tools, since I do not know which application you are using.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Ok I upgraded to the latest kernel in Hardy once that was done, I booted into the new v. when i put in a dvd it does not play back correctly in ALL available media players mplayer, totem , xine. It appears to get stuck and is not fluid at all (you have to physically move with a skip button and then even you miss chunks and get stuck on the next frame. with no sound)

Media buttons- (there's no physical eject button w. my laptop). - this now does not work, no pop up showing the eject button, and no ejection taking place of dvd/cd . Only way to do this is to the right click on the drive on the desktop and eject.

I still have the previous kernel- .19 in grub - and these problems do not exist there. Have vostro 1310 laptop, nvidia graphics card (which I had issues with when I upgraded too).

Please let me know if this is enough info. I'm not near my pc at mo and am fairly new at linux in general .

Have just updated to 2.6.24-22 and the same problem is present. When I try and look at a .vob file I get invalid argument as well. Update has also broken sound again and buttons remain unmapped. It seems that every update is a step backwards.

Same problem here on Toshiba Satellite U305 laptop after upgrading to 2.6.24.22. No DVD playback in any app. Rebooting with 2.6.24.21 fixed problems. I didn't notice any keymapping problems but wasn't looking for them either.
