Desktop Drapes unable to run on Ubuntu 11.04

I am unable to make Desktop Drapes run on Ubuntu 11.04 using Unity or Gnome. The installation is a 64-bit.

I am also affected by this bug.

Clicking on 'System>>Preferences>>Desktop Drapes' has seemingly no effect.
running Drapes in the terminal yields this output:

is the cause of this natty's new behaviour for the notification area?
