Bug Description

Binary package hint: tzdata

Running Feisty & ran into this problem a little while back when trying to upgrade tzdata

#apt-get upgrade

dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

# dpkg --force-overwrite -i tzdata_2007b-0ubuntu1_all.deb

From reading on the forums, there's some suggestion that this conflicts with locales or libc6

This does not look like a file conflict, there are none. Do you still get this with the final Feisty or Gutsy version? This looks like a dpkg problem.

Changed in tzdata:
status: New → Incomplete

Sorry, I reacted before I read Martin's comment. Reading more closely, `Operation not permitted' is a very strange error to get here.

Do you have selinux enabled or something ? Or have you used chattr +i on some files ? Is NFS involved ?

Could you please strace dpkg doing this operation, with
   strace dpkg -ttvvs500 -o dpkg.strace -i tzdata_2007b-0ubuntu1_all.deb
and then attach the resulting dpkg.strace file to the bug report ?

Thanks,
Ian.

Changed in dpkg:
assignee: nobody → stefan-betz
status: Incomplete → Confirmed

The problem is not in dpkg. Some files had chattr +i either voluntarily or due to filesystem corruption. Marking the bug as invalid.
