After some digging, it's effectively a regression of dpkg 1.16.0 compared to 1.15.8. (But it's unrelated to the multiarch branch). It would be nice to see this fixed in natty also.

summary: - package hostname 3.04ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage:
- package hostname is already installed and configured
+ error "Junk after Priority" while parsing status or available file
Changed in dpkg (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → High
status: New → Triaged
milestone: none → natty-updates
