Attached is a screenshot of Synaptic at this dpkg hang: Upon upgrading the packages, as soon as Synaptic/APT/dpkg starts unpacking the .deb archives, dpkg hangs, WITHOUT CONSUMING ANY CPU!!! This is definitely something an infinite loop would do.
