Bug Description

Hello,

For ubuntu-bug I have no idea what 'update-alternatives' is related to, so I am reporting this manually.

My system specs:

Ubuntu 23.04
Gnome 44.0

It's my understanding that the command;

sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme

Will allow you to change a cursor theme. When I pick one, and I restart my system, it doesn't change the mouse cursor theme.

Also, it's my understanding, that every cursor theme installed in Ubuntu is suppose to be listed with this command.

But if I go to /usr/share/themes & /usr/share/icons these are all the ones installed, so I don't understand why they are not listed in update-alternatives.

/usr/share/themes$ ls
Adwaita Default HighContrast Yaru Yaru-bark-dark Yaru-blue-dark Yaru-dark-hdpi Yaru-hdpi Yaru-magenta-dark Yaru-olive-dark Yaru-prussiangreen-dark Yaru-purple-dark Yaru-red-dark Yaru-sage-dark Yaru-viridian-dark
Adwaita-dark Emacs Raleigh Yaru-bark Yaru-blue Yaru-dark Yaru-dark-xhdpi Yaru-magenta Yaru-olive Yaru-prussiangreen Yaru-purple Yaru-red Yaru-sage Yaru-viridian Yaru-xhdpi

/usr/share/icons$ ls
Adwaita DMZ-White handhelds Humanity LoginIcons ubuntu-mono-dark Yaru Yaru-blue Yaru-magenta Yaru-olive-dark Yaru-purple Yaru-red-dark Yaru-viridian
default gnome-logo-text-dark.svg hicolor Humanity-Dark redglass ubuntu-mono-light Yaru-bark Yaru-blue-dark Yaru-magenta-dark Yaru-prussiangreen Yaru-purple-dark Yaru-sage Yaru-viridian-dark
DMZ-Black gnome-logo-text.svg HighContrast locolor Tango whiteglass Yaru-bark-dark Yaru-dark Yaru-olive Yaru-prussiangreen-dark Yaru-red Yaru-sage-dark

I'm attaching a screen shot of update-alternatives that shows you only 7 entries.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2019524/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
