Bug Description

With Kubuntu (Oneiric), if you right click a text file in the dolphin file browser and select "Open With"->"gedit", a new gedit window comes up with the selected file opened but also a second tab is created with "untitled document".

When closing the editor, gedit always asks if you want to save the redundant file - which is really annoying.

Starting gedit from the command line or from Nautilus does not exhibit this problem.

Thank you for your bug report, that seems an issue with how dolphin calls gedit

affects: gedit (Ubuntu) → dolphin (Ubuntu)

BTW - I get the same behavior when I've set up my browser to open some downloaded files using gedit: I'm using Firefox 11 UX downloaded from Mozilla as a binary tarball, and I can reproduce the same problem that I've explained before using the following process:
1. Browse to some file that Firefox 11 UX does not know how to open.
2. In the "Save" dialog choose "Open" and click "Browse"
3. In the browse dialog enter /usr/bin/gedit
4. OK everything.

The result:
A new gedit window opens with two tabs: the requested file is the first tab and the second tab is an "untitled document" with a "loading animation" for the icon.

Additional information - in both scenarios if you leave the gedit window open and get either Dolphin or Firefox to open a new file, you get two additional tabs on the existing gedit window - the file you requested and another "untitled document".

I've tried to see if I can reproduce this behavior by invoking gedit with the shell, but no matter what combination I tried I couldn't figure out what parameters can be used to trigger this behavior. When I reproduce this behavior using Dolphin or Firefox, the parameter list gedit's proc entry look normal.

Affects Archlinux Gedit / Dolphin with KDE as well for at least 5 months. Having no earlier information, because never used before.

Confirming two additional tabs mentioned in #4
