dolphin sidebar expands undefinitely

When one launches dolphin the sidebar has a reasonable size. After selecting a few files and/or hovering them wit the mouse pointer, this sidebar expands until it only leaves room for one column of icons. The expected behavior is that the sidebar should never change size.
