Are you trying to run a KDE component in a Libertine container or are you trying to run an X11 application outside of a Libertine container?

I'm running it outside of Libertine, with the command

Sounds like dolphin requires an additional package or interface to be useful. Not an application setup issue.

klauncher5 lives in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kf5/klauncher and gets started automatically by kdeinit5. However, kdeinit5 seems to open an X11 display so that's probably why it doesn't work under u8.

It might very well be that qtmir's ApplicationManager::authorizeSession is not letting kdeinit5/klauncher5 through... investigating

Solution to this is comment #8 plus we need to fix kinit: https://cgit.kde.org/kinit.git/tree/src/kdeinit/kinit.cpp#n1364

It aborts when it sees no DISPLAY envvar; which doesn't make sense, it can very well continue without.
