Bug Description

Binary package hint: udisks

This is a bug report on the dmraid package installed with Unbuntu 10.10 (Maverick). I can't give you an exact version number for dmraid on that package because its no longer installed in its original form, but the dmraid version ended in rc16.

I have two 2tb drives in a Raid 1 array and a single IDE (non-Raid drive). The Raid array has Windows 7 and Karmic (9.10). The IDE drive has Maverick and Vista. Windows has no problem with the Raid array and functions perfectly. However, I couldn't install Maverick to the Raid array. When I got to the partitioning screen, the Raid array didn't show up. I discovered, however, that Karmic (9.10) would install to the array and function OK as long as I didn't upgrade.

Initially, the Maverick installation on the IDE drive wouldn't see the Raid array. But then I discovered that if I uninstalled dmraid v rc 16 and reinstalled the Karmic Version (rc15) then Maverick could see the array. There are still a few problems (the places menu lists each mirror drive twice, for example), but I can use mount to mount the drives to a partition and use the GUI to read and write from and to them. Windows seems OK with the changes made. I am also able to use GPARTED to partition.

The problem is that the current (rc16) version of dmraid doesn't work with my array. The prior version (rc15) does work. Below is info on the currently functioning installation (the one in which I installed the Karmic version of dmraid)

dmraid version: 1.0.0.rc15 (2008-09-17) shared
dmraid library version: 1.0.0.rc15 (2008.09.17)
device-mapper version: 4.17.0

I think you already have the hardware info, but for the record the Board is a Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P. It has a Gigabyte and AMD Controllers. I am using the Gigabyte for the Raid array, but I believe AMD gives the same results.
