Bug Description
Binary package hint: xorg
Booting the Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 4 live CD using default choices causes the screen resolution to be 1600x1200, while the ATI Radeon X1270 card and Dell LCD monitor supports 1920x1200.
This should be fixed so Ubuntu comes up in the best available resolution (1920x1200).
When starting System -> Preferences -> Screen Resolution, there are no resolution to adjust.
This should be fixed so the screen resolutions can be adjusted.
The reason for the problems might be the xorg.conf file detected at boot (minimal).
A workaround trying to install the ATI driver in order to adjust the resolution, failed because aticonfig complained about missing entries in xorg.conf.

I am happy to announce that with the Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Alpha 4:
* from the live CD I finally managed to install the ATI restricted driver to
get 1920x1200 (had to edit xorg.conf).
* from the live CD, by doing "Update" the resolution went up to 1920x1200,
with no extra driver installed. The resolution was also adjustable as it
should be.
This looks promising for the next live CD release.
