Bug Description

I just installed Gutsy. I have this graphic card:
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 [Sapphire X550 Silent]
02:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 secondary [Sapphire X550 Silent]

The system configured it correctly but I'm unable to configure dual monitor, that's what happens:
- in the "screen and graphics preferences" applet the "secondary monitor" is disable
- the secondary graphic card is wrongly setup as "vesa"
- if I choose "ati" for the secondary card I still can't enable the second monitor

So I'm stuck with a single usable monitor.

I tried also installing proprietary drivers and the situation is the same: I can't enable the second monitor

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in displayconfig-gtk.

Having the same problem here (Radeon X300SE, Gutsy), even with an xorg.conf (attached) which worked flawlessly in Feisty.

The ati driver in Gutsy does not support Xinerama anymore, which DisplayConfigGTK uses. You have to wait for Gutsy+1, since we will then support RandR1.2. You can use the command xrandr to configure your second screen.

Does work choosing the proprietary driver, closing displayconfiggtk and reopening it?

I got this working with the newest driver from ATI (http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html) and the attached X.org configuration file. HTH.

I think that the duplicate status is wrong.

I'm running 11.04 and in Monitor Preferences I see only one monitor when in fact two are connected and the display is cloned.

This is without a xorg.conf file.

My card is:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 5B60 [Radeon X300 (PCIE)]
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 [Radeon X300SE]
