Bug Description

Binary package hint: discover-data

Hello,
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a Fujitsu-Siemens ESPRIMO V5535 laptop.
First let me thank for the excellent support of the WLAN hardware - it worked immediately.

Unfortunately, the SiS 671 graphics card remains a problem. If Google is to be believed, one should download a binary driver and install that. Which does not work. The standard installation just yielded just 800x600 resolution, which is of course very bad.
I found out that simply creating

/etc/X11/xorg.conf with this:

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Configured Video Device"
    Driver "vesa"
    #Option "UseTiming1366" "yes"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Configured Monitor"
    HorizSync 30-107
    VertRefresh 50-185
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Default Screen"
    Monitor "Configured Monitor"
    Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

gives me at least a proper screen resolution (1200x800). I can even watch youtube properly, so that's acceptable with me. I know that it still doesn't use 3D acceleration.
Could you please make this work with current Ubuntu releases ?

This problem has been reported numerous times and it seems only the detection mechanism must be improved....
