Bug Description

The package description of the diff-doc binary package is: "This is a dummy package to aid in transitioning from diff-doc to diffutils-doc. It may be safely removed after upgrading to squeeze."

Actually, this makes no sense for an Ubuntu user, who don't necessary know debian's versions names...

Should be changed to the right Ubuntu-version or alternatively to not break compatibility with upstream, change description from "This is a dummy package to aid in transitioning from diff-doc to diffutils-doc. It may be safely removed after upgrading to squeeze." to "This is a dummy package to aid in transitioning from diff-doc to diffutils-doc. It may be safely removed after upgrading from diff-doc to diffutils-doc."

This package is only needed in Lucid for the transition of diff-doc to diffutils-doc, in maverick it's no longer needed so better to remove the binary diff-doc dummy package or if possible blacklist it. Subscribing the archive admins.

Pascal De Vuyst: Why are you confirming archive bugs without being a member of the relevant package team?

This package is built from diffutils-doc, if it shouldn't be built then the packaging should be changed

I apologize for subscribing the ubuntu-archive team, which was not the right thing to do.
Reopening the bug task for diffutils-doc so someone can provide a debdiff in which the diff-doc binary package doesn't get build.

Unsubscribing ubuntu-archive per Jonathan's comments above, as there's no action that we can legitimately take right now.

My first contribution from the ubuntu harvest list. Hope the patch is good. From what I understood, I changed the contents of the control file in debian directory.

Thanks, but I think we can safely wait for Debian to do this. There's no urgent reason to do it in Ubuntu that would justify the divergence from Debian.

Please check whether there's a Debian bug about this, and if not then file one with your patch. (They probably won't want to accept it until after squeeze is released, of course, and I recommend that your bug report should show an understanding of this.)
