Bug Description

Binary package hint: dia

Steps to reproduce in a fully updated Jaunty:

1. Open dia-gnome
2. Click on File -> Print
3. Keep default options selected (Printer, lpr)
4. Click on OK

Result: The printing doesn't work. Nothing is sent to the printer. An error dialog is displayed with the following error message:

  "Printer error: command 'lpr' caused sigpipe."

and then another error message:

  "Printing error: command 'lpr' returned 256"

If you open dia-gnome from a terminal, you can see the following error message:

  $ dia
  lpr: Error - no default destination available.

The "print to file" option works OK, though.

The problem seems to be the following: I doesn't set up the default lpr printer. To fix that:

1. Click on System->Administration->Printing.
2. Right-click on the desired printer, and select Make default printer.

After the above steps, the problem disappears.

Confirmed bug, but the work-around fixed it for me - thanks! Could it be a bug that the printer admin tool doesn't set a default device, even when there is only one printer?

It seems such this issue is solved in 0.97-2 version (Actually I am using Karmic), any way, work around works fine for me too in another machine with Jaunty.

@Ricardo, is it possible if you can check this issue under latest release that ships with Ubuntu Lucid and test if is still affecting you? Thanks!

@Kamus, I'm at the UDS now, but I'll check it when I go back to home :).
Thanks to you.
