Bug Description

Binary package hint: devicekit-disks

Detection of CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and blank CD-R and DVD-R media is broken after updating or reinstalling devicekit-disks. I have observed this problem after two recent updates of devicekit-disks on Karmic. I was also able to reproduce the problem by simply reinstalling the same version of devicekit-disks:

# cd /var/cache/apt/archives
# dpkg --install devicekit-disks_007-2ubuntu6_amd64.deb

After the installation completes, inserted CDs or DVDs are not automounted. If I open "Places->Computer" and double click on the CD/DVD drive, nothing happens. It's as if not CD was in the drive.

If I insert a blank media, nothing happens. Brasero is unable to burn anything because it claims there is no media in the drive.

But I can manually mount CDs and DVDs:

# mount /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom0

After mounting it manually the media is detected and a Nautilus window pops up with the contents of the CD/DVD. After that automatic media detection works again. I can eject the CD from Nautilus. When I reinsert it, it is automatically mounted. Somehow manually mounting the media removes whatever internal blockage was preventing media detection.

Similar thing is happening to me in 10.04 Beta 1 32 bit starting tonight. I had a CD in the drive, ripped it no problem. Ejected the CD, put in another and it was not detected. I can still see my drive listed in Computer as HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50, but even after restarting several times it will not mount anything I put in the drive. I've tried issuing the command to mount it, and then the drive disappears from Computer also. I have all current updates on Beta 1. I need to fix this.
