Bug Description

Binary package hint: desktop-webmail

It should be possible, in the desktop-webmail UI, to choose "Roundcube" or "Squirrelmail".

If choosen, a new field appears for the URL of the installation.

This would allow people to easily use their custom roundcube or squirrelmail installation.

(in fact, a better option would be to ask for the URL of the webmail and automatically recognize if it's GMail, a custom roundcube or whatever)

I think it will be touch to provide a compelling user experience with all the syntax details etc by providing users a general form field to add new providers.

Those that understand the syntax can probably hand edit .ini files anyway.

However, what I envision is a plugin model that allows users to install new providers from the net. for that we might need a new content type or something that then could be hooked up with a desktop-webmail provider installer.

Then community could manual craft these plugins and submit them to a central place like the desktop-webmail maintaer.

Changed in desktop-webmail (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Triaged

sorry i got this bug wrong. i dont know if we should go down the road and make URLs with placeholder fields that when selected users could fill in. Maybe this just needs some baking in my head though, so stay tuned ;)

Anyway, I guess having this plugin mechanism from above wouldnt help you?
