does not support spec 1.5

This package's code is a bit behind from the upstream code. In 2022, code was committed to support 1.5:

When trying to validate .desktop files in Ubuntu that are running 1.5, I am getting errors.

I am running Ubuntu 23.04
desktop-file-utils 0.26-1ubuntu5

Thank you for the report. It would be smoothest if upstream released a version with that change. I see that is requested in https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xdg/desktop-file-utils/-/issues/69

Yes, however their repository is not very active. It's going to be a waiting game. I think I will just use a rolling release distribution instead.
