Bug Description

Unlike most other keyboard shortcuts, the keyboard shortcut to bring up the deskbar-applet is set in its preferences instead of in the Keyboard Shortcuts control panel. There is a "search" keyboard shortcut in the Keyboard Shortcuts control panel, but it brings up file search. In addition, deskbar-applet uses an inferior user interface for setting the shortcut, requiring the user to type in keystroke descriptions, rather than simply typing the keystroke.

I am apparently mistaken that deskbar-applet doesn't allow arbitrary keystrokes, however it doesn't won't allow the same keystrokes as Keyboard Shortcuts. For example, Keyboard Shortcuts lets me set the "Search" shortcut to the "Search" key on my keyboard [Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000], but deskbar-applet just reverts to <alt>-f3 when I try this. In addition, if I attempt to use a keyboard shortcut keystroke that is in use, it never sees the keystroke.

Thank you for your bug. That's known upstream and a patch is available, it'll likely be fixed for hardy, http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413538
