Bug Description

deja-dup currently has many open bugs, comes pre-installed missing many components/dependencies and is generally slow and unreliable.

Not having a backup solution by default would be more desirable than this package.

I agree that Déjà Dup does need more developers and a second maintainer to reduce the burden on Michael Terry, who has not enough time to fix everything or even test all patches currently available.

If you would like to offer help on that feel free to start fixing bugs and join discussion on the upstream mailinglist.

I strongly disagree with the suggestion, that Ubuntu should ship without any backup software. This field is too important to exclude it from the distribution. One might consider a new search for a more reliable but still easy to use backup software instead. I have no clue if such a software exists.

In my opinion, a backup solution that appears to work is more dangerous than no solution at all

Hello! I'm the upstream author of deja-dup. I understand your frustration, but I think deja-dup does more good than harm.

I'm going to close this bug, because this isn't the best venue for such a discussion. If you are serious about advocating for deja-dup to be removed, try your case at <email address hidden>.
