'Backup failed: Invalid Argument' with Samba folder as 'username$'

Bug Description

1) Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
2) deja-dup 34.2-0ubuntu1.1

3) Expected to happen:

Backup to be made to the samba drive
smb://WORKGROUP;<email address hidden>/username$/

4) What happens instead:

A popup with 'Backup failed: Invalid Argument' comes up.

The following command gives no debug information.
# DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup

@Tim: I have a few questions regarding this bug report:

- Is "username" a replacement made by you to hide your real username from being published here or are you literally using "username"?

- Does "DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup" give output, which you consider unimportant, or is it really producing nothing at all?
