I get the same error for the .gvfs directory, which on inspection has root ownership.
drwx------ 2 root root 4.0K Nov 21 2014 .gvfs

It means the backup hangs on this every time and is a bit of a nuisance. I am running 14.04 64-bit and fully up to date.
