Bug Description

The installation appears to progress normally but fails at the step "select and install software"

1. Download Alternate amd+mac image: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/214/builds/15994/testcases
2. Verify md5 sums
3. Burn to CD-RW
4. Verify burn
5. Progress through installation

I have tried with two different media. The Desktop image from the same time installs just fine, so did earlier Alternate images.

Could you try burning it again or perhaps using a CDR instead of an CDRW?

Yes. I had even tried switching CDs. One of them was even brand new. The image checksum was ok and the burn verified, so maybe the optical drive was overheated. They work ok today. Yesterday, I had done the Alternate *after* running all four Desktop tests, they use the optical drive intensively. Also even though the machine seems to run a little hot under Linux, the fan does not run fast. Maybe those factors combined made for failure.

Today the drive is reading all of the CDRW I throw at it. Maybe it was a temperature thing.
