Many of us use grub2 to loopmount ISO files to install either from another drive or flash drive. With flash drives now lower in cost for larger capacities, I usually install several versions in one flash drive and use grub2 to loop mount the ISO files.

Gert Hulselmans has requested "/lib/modules/3.2.0-8-generic/kernel/drivers/block/loop.ko" from an installed Ubuntu precise amd64, but I'm having trouble successfully completing an amd64 install both with 20120111 and alpha1 live images. I PM'ed Gert about that but need a place to throw a screenshot for his info, so here it is.

This is actual for i386 and amd64 distribution using hd-media initrd. Bag is in hd-media initrd. First of all, if there are more than 10 images, after iso-scan 10 of them assigned to /dev/loop0-9.

The other mistake is "modprobe loop" in /var/lib/dpkg/info/iso-scan.postinst. This not need for using kernel, this feature is compiled in kernel. If I open with Alt+F2 the first console, the partition I need already mounted in /hd-media. So the command "mount /hd-media/dir/ubuntu-server.iso /cdrom -t iso9660 -o loop" work good. But script /var/lib/dpkg/info/iso-scan.postinst exit with code 1, and don't ask me, what iso it would select and mount.

I got around the problem by using initrd and vmlinuz extracted from the iso, booting off it and then finally during the installation process manually mounting the iso to /dev/cdrom. Finally I was able to installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS!

Got the same problem with 11.10 and 12.10 (only tried i386).
Got around by replacing /var/lib/dpkg/info/iso-scan.* in 12.04's initrd.gz with both files from 10.04's initrd.gz

I've got the same with 14.04 amd64.
I used hd-media boot.img with Easy2Boot USB hdd. There is a lot of images on (more than 10) disk, but installer fails to scan them. If I open console with Alt+F2, the partition with images already mounted in /hd-media like as AndreiF wrote. Mounting image to /cdrom doesn't help - installer tryes scan images again and all repeates.
